Self-Portrait: Florry
For our Self-Portrait series, we invite our favorite musicians to create an audio depiction of themselves through songs from the past and present.
Francie Medosch, leader of Philly’s raw, rambunctious and buzzworthy rock band Florry offers a compilation of tracks from Dylan, Lucinda, Sugar Ray and everything in-between that highlights the reference points for their highly anticipated new record The Holey Bible out August 4th on Dear Life Records.
From Florry’s Francie Medosch:
I heart listening to music big time. Getting to make it is especially amazing because you may wind up subconsciously pulling from this or that song that you heard as a kid or in passing that left an imprint. Some songs sound like you’ve known them forever and your own songs can do that too. I wanted to write an album with songs that sounded both modern and classic. I usually don’t pull from specifics, but the general songs I’m listening to in a point of time probably help push me towards feelings I want to express through words, chord progressions, riffs, or vibes. These are some of those songs.
My mom and stepdad are responsible for a lot of my underlying influences, like Aimee Mann, Bob Dylan, various soul music, etc., but I stumbled into my deep love of country music, showtuney music, power pop, and weirdo rock later on. My influences dont always show, but they are with me and combine with my experiences as a person.
If I had to pick my favorite artists of all time, my answer would be The Roches, Stereolab, Dylan, The Band, and Lucinda, but I just love a lot of stuff like everyone else!
