Self-Portrait: Robert Lester Folsom

Artwork by Mickey Miles

In our new series, Self-Portrait, we invite our favorite musicians to create an audio depiction of themselves through songs from the past and present.

The homestyle and off-center folk songwriting of Robert Lester Folsom found a pathway into the new millennia with Anthology Recordings who have resurrected the Georgia-born artist’s back catalog through a series of magnificent reissues. Ahead of the latest distribution Sunshine Only Sometimes, focusing on Folsom’s mid-70s output of “high-flying American folk rock,” Folsom himself delivers a mix of influences that resonate through his craft from the heavy rock of Marshall Tucker and Gregg Allman to the poignant lyricism of Dylan, Donovan, and Joni along with plenty of Beach Boys, Beatles, and CSNY.
