Hailing from the fertile folk and Old Time territory in the North Carolina Piedmont zone, Durham’s Magic Tuber Stringband throw another log on a momentous stretch with Wind Machines, a new tape that follows their gripping sophomore album released earlier this year titled When Sorrows Encompass Me ‘Round. The duo made up of Evan Morgan and Courtney Werner employ Appalachian neo-traditionalist song arrangements garnished with American Primitive drone techniques, fringe acoustic instrumentation, and naturalistic rural ballads that finds a curious common ground between the regional fiddler icons, Hank Williams, and Thinking Fellers Union Local 282.
