Rogér Fakhr- Fine Anyway

The work of Rogér Fakhr, an unsung hero in 1970s Lebanese folk circles, receives its first widespread release and promotion courtesy of Habibi Funk, the Berlin label and premiere authority on the last century’s important and mostly undiscovered music of the Arabic-speaking world. Fine Anyway is a collection of tracks recorded in the mid 70s in Beirut amidst the Lebanese Civil War originally released limitedly on around 200 cassettes. Similar sounding to the protest folk music of the 60s and 70s in America, Fakhr’s acoustic strumming, surreal storytelling, and hippie tambourine rhythms have a dusty charm familiar to any private press aficionado. The record progression follows Fakhr’s additional studio allotment several years later in Paris where he and his band were able to expand their sonics by using synthesizers and drum tones to round out Fakhr’s tunes into the appropriate funky Middle Eastern soft rock configuration they deserved.
