Dead At Duke Tee

Social-3.jpg

On April 24, 1971, for an admission fee of $6, students at Duke University joined Grateful Dead, The Beach Boys, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and Mountain for a medley of momentous rock and roll presented by a handful of bands that would go on to define a generation of music and art. That day marked the first time the Dead and the Beach Boys shared a stage together; days before their storied jam at the Fillmore East in NYC.

Piecing together original iconography and photos from the promotional materials and tickets from the show, designer Favorite Vegetable and New Commute share a t-shirt commemorating the first meeting of the two Californian psychedelic superpowers.

50% of the profit from the sales will be donated to BUMP, Durham's nonprofit music education organization whose mission is to foster urban youth empowerment through African Diasporic music and mentoring by promoting musical proficiency, cultural literacy and resilience. (BumpTheTriangle.org)
