Star Feminine Band is the extraordinary all-girl ensemble from the West African nation of Benin. The seven-member assembly of school-aged girls was formed through a response to a local radio station’s advertisement offering free music lessons. Their debut album incorporates elements of highlife, Afrobeat, garage rock, and cross-African pop in their songs about the importance of culture, women’s rights, and female empowerment delivered with an inextinguishable youthful spirit.
