Psychic Bloom- Mysterious Temple
Living in post-revolution Tehran, Iran, Aref Ahmadi’s cultural upbringing happened in the shadows. His homeland’s Islamic Ministry of Culture has held a ban on Western music and film since the conservatives took hold of the government in the late 1970s. With a ‘69 Jaguar, dusty vintage recording equipment, and the inspiration from Roky Erickson, Frank Zappa, and Captain Beefheart, Ahmadi wrote and recorded Mysterious Temple, his first release on Burger Records as Psychic Bloom. The tape is a colorful kaleidoscopic homage that funnels together the spirit of the pre-revolutionary rock legends of the East with the icons of Western psychedelic rock.
