Nigerien artist Abdallah Ag Oumbadougou’s 1995 cassette release Anou Malane stands in history as one of the first studio recordings of Tuareg guitar music popularized recently by the worldwide successes of Tinariwen, Bombino, and Mdou Moctar. Abdallah’s album newly reissued by Sahel Sounds combines his 90s Saharan guitar swing with programmed analog drum effects and a backdrop of classic low-budget synthesizer tones that lean on 80s Western club grooves and West African traditional melodies.

Purchase Abdallah Ag Oumbadougou’s reissue of Anou Malane out now via Sahel Sounds.
